Northwest String Summit

This year we are adding SO MUCH to our mindfulness offerings at Northwest String Summit. Now, when we need clarity, compassion and open-heartedness more than ever we are adding meditations and more yoga movement and breathing classes throughout the weekend! It is so vital that we nurture our mind, body and soul so that we have the ability and energy to enjoy more of the event and each other. Please come out and enjoy any OR all of these offerings absolutely for FREE! All offerings will be held in the grassy meadow of Cascadia unless otherwise noted.

Home to Horning’s, Home to yourself: All Set Up! Your tent is pitched, your camp set up. You have done the work of making your festival home, now come home to your body. We’ll gently stretch out all the hard work and get you ready to PARTY!!!

Coffee Talk: Open your mind as you prepare to open your body. Each discussion will focus on the connection of yogic philosophy to our modern lives both at NWSS and at home, including residing in your radiance, celebrating who you are in order to celebrate others, and being grounded in ourselves in order to be grounded in our place in the bigger picture.

Yoga, All Levels- Come stretch, breathe, get strong, and relax, all in playful practice. With flowing sequences incorporating some longer holds, this class is an accessible mix of alignment, body mechanics, mindfulness, and connection to the breath.

Relax and Renew: Tired feet? Sore legs and back? Whether you have never tried yoga or practice every day, your body will thank you. Come breathe, relax, stretch, and get your body ready for more dancing and hill climbing. Appropriate for practitioners of all levels, including total beginners.

Moving Meditation- This practice is based in Sufi techniques. The first 30 minutes are an active, centering meditation with the eyes open, followed by 15 minutes of whirling and 15 minutes of silent rest. The practice will leave you centered, calm, and connected.

Chakra Breathing- This practice can be done sitting or laying down, and will incorporate breathing techniques that will benefit the overall health of your spine and energetic centers of your body. A gentle way to create awareness that can reduce both physical and emotional discomfort.

Yogic Sleep Meditation (Yoga Nidra): A lying down guided meditation that will bring the brain to a waking dream state. This practice is done laying on the ground, putting the body in a state of complete relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness. A wonderful Sunday afternoon reset to get you ready for one more night of fun.

Storytime Yoga for Kids and their Parents: Your kids will love moving in their bodies, inspired by their imaginations. Age appropriate stories and themes are explored and acted out using breath work, physical movement, and silliness, allowing both parents and kids to cultivate awareness and joy in their own bodies. Designed for kids 2.5-7, but kids and parents of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate.

Yoga Teachers:
Rachel Stern, RYT* is thrilled to have the opportunity to share her love of practicing and teaching yoga with her fellow Summiteers. She has been teaching yoga in Portland, Oregon since 2006 and practicing consistently for over 16 years. Rachel believes that the best yoga you can practice is the yoga that feels good in your body. She encourages students to challenge themselves while being mindful and respectful of their personal limitations. Rachel’s classes blend clear alignment with joyous fun, and will get your body, mind, and spirit in shape to throw down hard on the dance floor. If you’re gonna party, make sure to take care of your body!**

An explorer of consciousness and a seeker of truth, my aim is to share Yoga as a spiritual science designed to awaken us to our highest potential. Through the practice of yoga we can transform from the inside out to become the change we wish to see in the world.
